Russia Gay rights Winter Olympics

Russia’s President has warned against ‘gay propaganda’ in Sochi. Top Paralympian believes a boycott of Winter Olympics would harm athletes wanting to compete and have little affect on the situation surrounding gays in Russia. Putin recently signed a new law making it a crime to promote homosexuality to minors. There was an international outcry and calls for a boycott. Claire Harvey, team captain for GB women’s sitting volleyball team competing in 2012 Paralympics, told a meeting in London that a disruption would prevent athletes from competing and affect their careers in future Games. She was among a group of guests of British and Russian gay activists to discuss Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights in Russia. The evening was organised by the Westminster Russia Forum, London and the InterLaw Diversity Forum that addresses LGBT issues in the legal sector. ynuk.tv was there
