Day of the employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation or the day of the police – November 10 The history of the day of the militia in Russia began in 1715, when, by decree of Emperor Peter the Great, the first public security service was created. This service was named by the police, which literally means “government”.
When the revolution of 1917 occurred, the decree of the NKVD “On the working militia” was issued. In accordance with it, a division of worker-peasant militia (abbreviated RCM) was created. The purpose of this unit was the protection of public order. However, the holiday itself was established in 1962 in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and was named the Day of Soviet Militia.
It became an official holiday for the whole country only in 1980. In 1991, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Day of Soviet Militia disappeared. He was replaced by the Day of the Russian police, which was celebrated until 2011. Since March 1, 2011, the Law “On Police” comes into force and the very name of the holiday “Day of the Police” becomes obsolete. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1348 of October 13, 2011, the Day of Militia is officially called the Day of the employee of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation. Police officers accept congratulations on their professional holiday on 10 November. Traditions that formed the basis for the celebration of the Day of the Police in Soviet times are still preserved today. This is a gala concert with the participation of stars, and the speeches of high-ranking officials of the Ministry of the Interior. Innovation was the solemn speech of the President of Russia before the concert.
Also the guards are congratulated by the party leaders. As in Soviet times, the state awards in the Kremlin for the best officers of the internal affairs bodies are held annually. As a rule, internal affairs officers meet their professional holiday and accept congratulations on the day of the militia on guard, guarding the peace and sleep of the citizens of the country. Indeed, despite the fact that over time, the name of the unit and the name of the holiday changed many times the purpose for the officers of the internal affairs agencies remained the same: to protect the peace of citizens and order in the country.
